Anglian Learning Breaks Barriers with a More Accessible Digital Experience

About Anglian Learning
Anglian Learning is a multi-academy trust based in East Anglia, comprising 18 academies, including 11 primary schools, 7 secondary schools, and 2 sixth forms. Established in 2016, the Trust is dedicated to providing inclusive and aspirational education across Cambridgeshire, North Essex and West Suffolk. Guided by Core Values of Aspiration, Community, Empowerment, and Inclusivity, Anglian Learning is built on a culture of collaboration and innovation, and aims to transform education and enable learners to thrive locally, nationally, and globally.
The Challenge
As an organisation that’s already dedicated to ensuring inclusivity in education, Anglian Learning wanted to make sure that anyone accessing their website was able to engage with their content, find the information they need, and get in touch, regardless of ability. This meant ensuring every aspect of their site was meeting the latest WCAG guidelines and was compatible with assistive technologies. With a core focus on education, Anglian Learning reached out to us as a partner in the web accessibility field to aid them in their efforts.
The Anglian Learning website is the first phase of the organisation’s web accessibility project and will be followed by the next phase, which is ensuring all school websites meet WCAG principles.
Our Approach
After discussing Anglian Learning’s requirements with members of their leadership team, we determined that a manual web accessibility audit would be the best approach. Not only is a manual audit more in-depth, but our web accessibility experts would also ensure the client’s site was accessible across various browsers and devices as well as with different types of assistive technologies such as screen readers. After several days, we delivered a detailed report that outlined exactly what needed to be updated on the Anglian Learning website at a code level to ensure it was fully accessible.
