About Kadance

Kadance is a genomics-powered precision health management company that integrates advanced DNA testing with personalized clinical support. Through its membership program, clients receive pharmacogenomic testing to understand how their body processes medications, and hereditary cancer risk testing to identify genetic predispositions. By combining actionable genetic insights, ongoing care coordination, and deep clinical expertise, Kadance empowers people to make smarter health decisions.

The Challenge

As a company committed to empowering people with deeper insights into their health, Kadance wanted to ensure that every individual, regardless of ability, could easily access and benefit from their precision health platform. But truly understanding how users with visual, motor, or cognitive disabilities experience their site proved challenging without firsthand insight. To bridge that gap, Kadance partnered with AccessibilityChecker.org to audit their platform, uncover barriers, and guide improvements that would make navigating genetic test results, care coordination tools, and health insights more inclusive for all.

Our Approach

To create a more inclusive and accessible online experience, Aaron Koppinger, Director of Product Development at Kadance, signed up for our automated web accessibility tool. With the help of AI technology, he was able to identify where their platform was falling short in terms of the latest WCAG guidelines. The AccessibilityChecker.org tool also ensured the Kadance team fully understood their current user experience and how compatible the site was with various assistive technologies, allowing them to successfully remove any barriers.

Questions & Answers with Kadance

Question #1
How did you learn about web accessibility?
Kadance Kadance
Web accessibility is something I've been working with and working through for a long time. I worked at an experience management organization for about 4 or 5 years and we had some really interesting large-scale clients there. And as your clients are large-scale, they have a diverse user base and we had to make sure we were accessible.
Question #2
What did you find difficult about web accessibility at first?
Kadance Kadance
One of the things I pride myself on as someone working in product is that I'm good at putting myself in other people's shoes so that I could feel the experience from their point of view. However, this was a whole new world. I didn't know how to experience it as someone who had audio difficulties or couldn't see. So, it became a lot harder for me to put myself in that person's shoes. And once I did do that, it was hard to know where to make those changes within the code and articulate those changes to my engineers.
Question #3
Why did you choose AccessibilityChecker as your tool of choice?
Kadance Kadance
I was really impressed with the ease of use and the tool's ability to identify all of the pages on our site, scan each of them individually, and then provide me with a detailed report of exactly what needed to be changed. I also liked the ability to re-scan at any point in time. Our current organization is a startup and we're really trying to fine tune our user experience and when you make changes, you can easily lose your compliance, so it was great to be able to re-scan and check everything again without it feeling like a burden.
